Skinnydippers return to Newton Wave Pool

Well, we have had two swims now, at Newton Wave Pool and we have another booked for May 24th. As our legal fight is now over, we will not be posting any more updates to this site. For the time being we will leave the content up in static form but all updates from now on will be on our main Skinnydipper Recreation Club website. Eventually, this site content will be archived but will be made available for reference through our main site.

March 2008

We are extremely pleased to announce that we have finally settled all outstanding issues with the City of Surrey. Following the expiration of the appeal period in December, we entered into negotiations with city staff to determine the conditions under which we would be able to rent the Newton Wave Pool for nude swim session. Although we had to work through a number of contentious issues, all have now been resolved to our complete satisfaction and we look forward to establishing a respectful working relationship with both the Newton Wave Pool staff as well as the staff at the Surrey Parks, Recreation and Culture Department.

We have booked Newton Wave Pool for a nude swim for Saturday, March 22nd from 9:30pm to 11:00pm. You will be able to find details on the Skinnydipper Recreation Club website.

November 2007

On November 8, 2007 we were informed by Jay Spiro, lawyer for Skinnydipper Services Inc. that the B.C. Supreme Court had issued a decision in the judicial review launched by the company against the City of Surrey. Judge Williamson dismissed all arguments made by the City against the application and found in favour of Skinnydippers. In the ruling the judge found that the city's decision to deny permits to Skinnydipper Services for private nude swim events was "patently unreasonable" and that their bylaw requiring "appropriate bathing attire" to be beyond the legislative competence of the city council. This is, to say the least, a great day for all people who enjoy nude recreation. While we cannot describe it as a complete victory, it is pretty much what we hoped for in this stage of the action. We have scored a major touchdown, now we have to carry that effort through to the end of the game.

It is worthwhile adding here that we are extremely grateful for the contributions to our legal fund that are coming in from all over North America. Although it would be impossible to thank everyone who has donated individually, nevertheless, we are thankful for every contribution of any amount.
